About us
Southampton City College exists to provide a high quality of education, training and promotion of learning. Within City College there are 2 main sub groups, which include City Training, dealing with apprenticeships and City Business, specialising in corporate training programmes from health & safety certificates to professional diplomas in management.
City College has been supporting learning in the Southern Hampshire region to people from all walks of life since being established in 1969 as a further education college. Today, City College has over 1000 full-time students who are usually aged 16-19 and around 9000 part-time students on courses from art & design to yacht building.
City College serves predominately a central catchment area of central Southampton, however an increasing number of students travel further.
The main campus is on St Mary Street in the heart of Southampton’s city centre. Our Maritime Technology Centre is located on the banks of the River Itchen in Woolston, a short distance from the main site. Our maritime campus is a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE), and is the ideal learning environment for anyone wishing to learn new skills or increase their skills base.
Over the next 2 years, City College will be finishing the £34.7m development of its St Mary Street campus.
A central hub will be created, which will act as a focal point of the college, used for a dedicated student guidance area as well as enrolment events, exhibitions and conferences.
The three-storey hub will have exceptional facilities such as television and radio studios, seminar rooms and open access areas across the top floors.
Highly glazed links will join the hub to Block 2, a new three storey building, which will provide up to date facilities for catering, hair and beauty learning.
Block 2 will also house a fitness suite (available for use by both staff and students), seminar rooms and a new student/staff bistro.
Phases 4 and 5 will include a new commercial building, which will allow Catering, Hospitality, and Hair & Beauty to put their learning into practice within a state of the art Restaurant and Hair and Beauty Salons, which will be open to the general public.
These modern facilities will support high quality learning, which will help the College to continue to be the number one choice for vocational further education in the area.
